I’m thinking about a new project. In the meantime, here are a few shots from a recent shoot with an aspiring fitness model.

I had a blast shooting with Ben and Tani at Zena Forest Products’ mill near West Salem. It was an overcast day, and most of the photographs were shot using ambient light with a reflector or two. I used a ringflash for a few of them.
It was the first time Ben and Tani modeled, and they did a great job!

I love to shoot portraits, but I’d have to say that I generally like focusing on one person at a time. I shot these family portraits this weekend, and I had a lot of fun. We hit Napoleon’s Crêperie & Gelato after the shoot and chatted over stracciatella. What a great way to spend the day.

I took a few hours yesterday to shoot some photos with Tara. Amy’s make up really helps get people into the mood of the shoot.
The bitter cold made shooting outside tough, so we retreated into a downtown building’s basement. We used a freight elevator and a cleared the corner of the trash room. Very lo-fi production, but it’s the image that matters, right?
The trash room is white cinder block with grey concrete floor. It looks like an asylum to me, so I’ve tried to create a photo that reflects the crazed isolation of imprisonment.
I used the lensbaby Control Freak throughout and used the blur to isolate Tara’s eyes.
In the elevator, I used a harder light source, a beauty dish to use Tara’s voluminous hair to frame her face and bring out her green eyes.
It was a fun day of shooting, and I’m not done editing yet. Keep an eye on my flickr stream for the latest.

A fantastic make-up artist and friend Amy suggested that I post a blog about the before-and-after of post-production. Great idea!
This was a shoot for Bend Living magazine. The model was a graphic designer for the magazine modeling “green” clothing.
By clicking on the image above, you can flip back and forth and see the effect of the edits. It looks dramatic once you have seen what was done, but because our society expects such perfection in beauty photography, you don’t notice the edits unless you see the direct comparison.
When you hire me, this is part of the service. See Pricing for more details.

I love shooting senior photos. It is a great time of life. Here are a couple of my favorites:
